I'm sometimes asked, 'Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals when there is so much cruelty to men?'

I answer, 'I am working at the roots.'

Bringing them home...

Talking about saving dogs ad cats...We found that on our way home from Grand Cayman with the dogs that people constantly stopped us to have a look inside the cage! When we told them that we were saving the dogs, bringing them back to Canada the people could not believe that we were doing that!
I guess most people think that its impossible and or that customs will stop them or whatever worst case senerio could be!
On the contrary! I remember with Mullet, in customs at Toronto Pearson, The officer asked if we could take Mullet out of his cage so that he could have a look at hime and pet him!
So the days of quarantine are long gone! Remember however that you must complete a little bit of paper work before you leave and that the pet needs a "passport" before leaving the Island. But you will find that most vets when they know that you are bringing the animal back that you are really saving them from misery and death so they usually do all that they can to get the animal ready for travel!
When we arrived at Kelowna B.C. while waiting for the dogs to arrive at baggage I was talking with a gentleman who wanting so badly to bring a puppy home with him and his wife and had to leave the little puppy there because they were sure that it was an impossible mission!
All this to say that...yes there are a few steps to follow if you are bringing back an animal from an Island but it is possible!
The first step is to go to a local vet and they will gladly help you and your new friend (s) and tell you everything you need to know. One very interesting point is that many of the Caribbean Islands are rabbies free! Yes! rabbies free! and Canada Customs know that!
We'll keep you posted for more info and please don't hesitate to contact us for more info!
